Adam joined Laine IP’s US team in August 2024, having previously worked as an academic researcher specializing in the intersection of epistemology and social neuroscience. His areas of focus include physics, ICT, and neuroscience.
Adam holds the title of dosentti from the University of Oulu and earned his PhD from the University of Edinburgh (both in philosophy). He has held postdoctoral fellowships as the University of Turku, University of Cologne, and University of Oulu. Adam also holds degrees in human neuroscience (MSc, University of Turku) and physics (BS, Michigan State University).
In his free time, Adam enjoys spending time with his family, making music, and developing software.
Joose started at Laine in August 2021 and is responsible for trademark matters and matters related to IP law. Joose manages trademarks, designs, domain names, marketing law, copyright, litigation and licensing.
Joose has a master’s degree in law. He has built extensive experience in patent and trademark agencies as an IP lawyer and as a trademark team leader.
Joose is the treasurer of the Association of Finnish Patent Attorneys. He is also an active member of the INTA Committee.

Juha-Matti works as European Patent Attorney on Laine IP Oy’s chemistry team, where he is responsible for patents in biotechnology and chemistry. He is highly experienced in patent prosecution, with strong IPR expertise especially in genetic engineering, cellular and microbiology, and biotechnology. He has also successfully prosecuted patents for mechanical inventions.
Juha-Matti has worked at Laine IP since 2015. Prior to joining the company, he worked as Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney at Oy Jalo Ant-Wuorinen Ab, and as a researcher with the Institute of Biotechnology at the University of Helsinki.
Juha-Matti holds a MSc degree (microbiology).
Juha-Matti is actively involved in various professional associations. He is a substitute council member of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI), as well as a member of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI) and the Association of Finnish Patent Attorneys (SPAY).

Pyry began working at Laine IP’s chemistry team as a patent attorney in March 2023. Before that he spent a year in the European Patent Office (EPO) as a trainee in the DNA analytics team. Before the traineeship, Pyry has worked in the University of Turku as a research assistant and in research commercialization projects.
Pyry holds a MSc degree in molecular biotechnology and diagnostics from the University of Turku.
In his leisure time Pyry likes playing football and floorball. He also enjoys making cider, where he spends most of his time working on software projects related to automating the brewing process.
Joni started his work at Laine IP in March 2023. He works as a European patent attorney in the ICT & Mechanics team, specializing especially in ICT inventions.
Before joining Laine IP, Joni worked as a patent attorney in another IPR firm for over six years. During this time, he qualified as both a Finnish patent attorney and a European patent attorney. The prestigious Managing IP publication awarded Joni with the MIP Rising Star recognition in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Before transitioning to patenting, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Aalto University, studying the propagation of radio waves in various urban indoor and outdoor environments to support the development of 5G systems.
Joni has graduated from Aalto University and holds a Master of Science (Tech) degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, majoring in radio engineering and minoring in electromagnetics in 2011. Furthermore, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in the field of radio engineering at Aalto University in 2015. His doctoral dissertation concerned artificial electromagnetic composite materials (so-called metamaterials) and their utilization in radio engineering applications (e.g. in antennas, cloaking devices and microwave lenses).
Joni has extensive experience in protecting various ICT/electrical engineering-related inventions both in Finland and abroad (e.g. in Europe, the USA and China). The inventions that he has worked on have related, for example, to ICT, software, artificial intelligence, optics, radio engineering and electronics. He is especially versed in patenting of computer-implemented inventions. In addition to patent drafting and prosecution, Joni has experience in conducting various novelty, freedom-to-operate and patent landscape searches for clients as well as in competitor monitoring.

Teemu works in the ICT & mechanics team as an authorized Finnish patent attorney. He started at Laine in 2023.
Before joining Laine, Teemu has worked in various research positions at the University of Eastern Finland investigating, for example, quantitative magnetic resonance imaging and its applications as well as electrochemical methods for salivary diagnostics.
Teemu holds an M.Sc. in Applied Physics / Medical Physics.
Thomas joined Laine in 2023. He works in Laine’s US-team as a registered US patent agent.
Thomas holds a Master of Science (Technology) degree in Chemical Engineering from Åbo Akademi, with a major in natural materials technology. He joined Laine right after completing his degree and primarily works with inventions in the field of chemistry.
In his free time, Thomas actively plays golf, a hobby he has pursued since a young age. He also enjoys other sports.
Reijo returned to Laine in May 2020, after working a few years elsewhere. In addition to trademarks and designs, he is responsible for legal services, especially contract law and dispute resolutions. He is also team leader in Laine IP’s trademark team.
Before re-joining Laine IP, Reijo worked as licensed legal counsel for four years with a Law Office, of which the last two years as an Attorney at Law. He has also worked at a university as a deputy lawyer, gaining experience in the academic world.
Reijo holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree and a Industrial Engineering degree.
Reijo has more than ten years of experience in international trademark and design applications and their registrations. He also has extensive experience in contract law, particularly IPR-related commercialization and licensing agreements.
Prior to entering the legal sector, Reijo worked for several years as a quality control engineer in the electronics industry, which is very useful in surveying customer needs.
Reijo is very involved in associative activity. He is a member of the Finnish AIPPI ry, Finnish Association for Industrial Property Rights (STY) and the Association of Finnish Lawyers.

Terhi started in Laine IP’s ICT & mechanics team in February 2021. Terhi is responsible for preparing and processing patent applications, defending and challenging patents, IPR research and investigations related to inventions, patents and their utilisation.
Terhi holds a MSc in Physics.
Terhi is an experienced European Patent Attorney. Before Laine, she worked in another patent office and in the mobile phone industry, e.g. as a team leader and Senior IPR Specialist. Terhi knows the ropes to processing and protecting inventions, risk management and patent defense, as well as analysis to support negotiations.
Terhi is a member in PIRY, STY and epi.
Tiia-Riikka joined Laine IP in March 2021. She works in the chemistry team focusing on inventions in the fields of biotechnology and medicine. In addition, Tiia-Riikka helps our clients with database searches.
Before joining Laine IP, Tiia-Riikka worked as a researcher at the Max Planck institute in Germany and at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center in Denmark. Tiia-Riikka’s research career has focused on protein chemistry and she has worked for example with biosynthesis of antibiotics, use of antibodies and modification of natural products.
Tiia-Riikka holds a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Helsinki and a doctoral degree (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
