Jasmin Kaivola Awarded the Elias Tillandz Prize

Jasmin Kaivola, patent engineer at Laine IP, is one of the winners of the 2025 Elias Tillandz Prize. The Elias Tillandz Prize is awarded annually for the best research article by researchers from BioCity Turku, and this year, the prize was shared by two research articles. Before joining the chemistry team at Laine IP, Jasmin conducted research in the research group led by Johanna Ivaska.

The award-winning research demonstrates how the removal of the SHANK3 protein causes an overdose in cellular communication regulating growth and division, leading to the death of KRAS-mutated cancer cells. KRAS mutations account for over 20% of all cancer types and are notoriously difficult cancers to treat. The research utilizes, among other things, nanobodies that can be used as drugs.
