Mark moved to Finland from the US to join Laine IP in 2019. He is the Team Leader of the US IP Team and a Partner of the firm, and additionally works as a US Patent Attorney on the firm’s chemistry team.

As a US Patent Attorney, Mark is uniquely able to offer patentability, validity, enforceability, and freedom to operate analyses and written opinions to the firm’s clients when they involve US patent assets.

Prior to joining Laine IP, Mark served as outside counsel to and in-house counsel for Siemens’ organizations for over 11 years, where he managed global IP strategy and prosecution for one of its business units. Prior to working with Siemens, Mark practiced in Chicago and Denver, passionately assisting clients in the acquisition and protection of their intellectual property rights.

Mark holds degrees in Forensic Science and Chemistry, and a Juris Doctor of Law from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

In his spare time, Mr. Scott enjoys art, film, studying languages, sports, working out, travel, and spending time with his family, including his young daughter. In addition, Mr. Scott is a local DJ who plays in cocktail lounges and terraces in the Helsinki area under the name DJ Patent.
